“I like to challenge myself in my role as Operations Manager”
Billy Arvidsson went from working as a Control Specialist to becoming Operations Manager at Coor. Working with people and the opportunity to challenge yourself are two things that make Billy really enjoy his work as Operations Manager.
Billy Andersson previously worked as a Control Specialist at Veolia Technical Management. Coor acquired the company at the end of 2021, which started a change journey for Billy and his colleagues.
“As a Control Specialist I worked extensively with fault trapping and programming control systems, such as ventilation, cooling equipment and heating systems. I programmed changes, added new functionality and sourced better software in order to increase the efficiency of the work. I then had the opportunity to join Coor as Operations Manager. I’m still on site quite a bit, but my work is now more about getting an overview of the work that needs to be done and creating the right conditions for our technicians.
What was it like to join Coor?
“It feels great actually. I was hesitant about Coor before—but I’ve been positively surprised. At Veolia the focus was on the technology, we were good at solving our customers- technical and system problems. Coor delivers great service in a different way, with more focus on customer interactions and finding out what the customer needs are. Coor has also been very open to engaging with the tech expertise that we at Veolia bring to the table.
What do you enjoy the most about your work?
“Caring for people. I actually applied to study sociology when I was younger, but became an electrician in the end. I also like to challenge myself in my role as Operations Manager. It’s a different experience managing people and customers compared to working in tech.
Many of Coor’s employees think the development potential is the best thing about the job, could you say a little about this?
“I joined Coor as Operations Manager, and some of my colleagues who were technicians have become specialists over the past few months. I’ve seen it clearly, people are given opportunities for development internally and new staff isn’t just recruited from outside. It’s great that people have that opportunity.
Why do you think it’s important to be able to develop professionally in the workplace?
“I think it’s important for retaining your competence level. But also in order to increase competencies. You might not think about it, but just because our competence levels are already high we can’t just rest on our laurels. It’s important to continuously develop and improve in order to not be left behind.
